Geography
Kasan Island is a network of rocky canyons, some holding water and tiny lush ecosystems but most simply arid and dry. It is also a thin Island, and deeper canyons have pits and holes that lead to the air underneath. The Kasan Gate sits at the bottom of a medium-depth canyon, and the Ancient Ruins around it seem mostly intact where they are not buried or even fused with the surrounding rock.
People and Culture
Although small, the maze-like and mystic nature of Kasan lends itself to pilgrimages, getting lost, intentionally losing things, or clandestine meeting places. There are few natives of Kasan, and they keep to themselves. Many are mystics following the path of The Hermit of Kasan, a popular folk figure, and quite a few foreign loners also emulate his wanderings out among the badlands. The nooks an crannies no doubt contain more than a few fugitives and runaways as well.
Local Authority
The Arcanists and their Guardsmen have held sway on Kasan for most of its habitation, although a local contingent of mystics reveres the place and have taken on civic responsibilities over the years.
Language
Travit and a mixture of native Cradle tongues.
Traverton
The ramshackle Traverton stretches up and down the canyon from the Gate, with occasional sets of stairs carved into the walls for rim access. Entertainment and services are provided by proprietors originating from other Islands and are barely adequate. Most visitors don’t bother leaving the Traverton, and traders and merchants will avoid being stuck between Gate openings unless it’s truly necessary.
