Vaaris

22 miles wide, average above surface 3,885ft

Geography

Vaaris is a smaller Island with rocky and steep terrain, riddled with deep cool vales dense with tall conifer trees.

People and Culture

With the exception of the Traverton, Vaaris is owned and controlled by an insular and xenophobic population of Ulda, preferring to keep to themselves to preserve pre-unification Uldan culture and traditions. They trust the Arcanists very little and the former Rathi not at all. Travelers occasionally move along the major roads and to the more populated villages, if they have legitimate business and an Uldan escort. Non-Uldan travelers alone will always be questioned, and away from the roads and villages any strangers are likely to simply be attacked, via Orn or otherwise.

Local Authority

The Island is ruled in an old Ulda tradition by a nine-member elected council advised by a seer, and is independent but closely aligned with the Ulda home Island.

Language

Uldan for most of the Island, Travit and a mixture of native Cradle tongues in the Traverton.

Traverton

Despite the conservative and insular nature of Island's primary inhabitants, the Traverton is comprehensive home for travelers. It is under Baraki (and Arcanist) jurisdiction, and indeed many buildings are constructed to resemble a Baraki encampment, with canvass walls and tents-in-the-desert themes. A wide plaza fronts the Gate, and more luxurious estates can be rented for longer stays at the edges of the Traverton.
